Chronic Lyme Disease Complex Treatment

Envita is an integrative center of excellence for personalized Lyme disease treatment and after nearly 20 years, we have clinically seen one factor remain true across most of our patients, antibiotics alone are not enough! Antibiotics are typically only effective in the very early stages of Lyme disease, but for many, this is merely the first step of a years-long battle with increasingly debilitating symptoms ranging from fatigue and muscle pain to cognitive and neurological disorders. Over time, patients find themselves unable to live their life as they struggle to get ahead of this progressing disease. However, at Envita we have discovered a revolutionary solution for patients to help improve their quality of life.

When used in the early stages of Lyme disease, antibiotics can work. The problem is that Lyme disease can go chronic and come along with multiple co-infections (viral, bacterial, fungal and parasitic) and other complications such as biofilm that can many times render antibiotics ineffective. The longer you have Lyme disease also plays a huge factor, because your immune system can become severely weakened, and antibiotics cannot strengthen your immune system (but they can weaken it).

Mold illness and Lyme disease are two of the most debilitating conditions we see in our practice. Both diseases can wreak havoc on the body, impacting every system and function, and can be challenging to diagnose and treat. Have you been struggling with symptoms for years? Are you unsure if you have Lyme or mold illness? At Vitality Wellness Clinic, we specialize in properly testing and assessing these conditions and providing naturopathic treatment options for both Lyme disease and mold.

At Vitality Wellness Clinic, we have successfully treated many patients by developing individualized treatment programs which target the specific effects illness has on the patient’s unique body. We have been effectively treating Lyme and mold for the past 13 years. We are Lyme literate doctors. Dr. Judy is an ILADS (International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society) member.

Mary Beth Ackerley MD, MD(H), ABIHM

Mary Ackerley, MD

Mary Beth Ackerley MD, MD(H), ABIHM, is a classically trained board certified psychiatrist. She is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Harvard University (BA), studied at NIMH, finished her residency at Johns Hopkins and was certified in Psychiatry and Neurology. She holds active medical licenses in Arizona, Florida and California.

She is the co-founder of ISEAI, the International Society of Environmentally Acquired Illness. Society members are dedicated to researching and quantifying symptoms and treatment approaches from biotoxin mediated inflammatory illness.

As an integrative holistic physician, she specializes in natural treatments. Patients commonly see her for anxiety, depression, brain fog and chronic fatigue. Her skills include the ability to manage cognitive and psychiatric symptoms often found in complex chronic illness. Protocols for biotoxin illness may involve conventional and integrative medical treatment.

Dr. Ackerley recognized a significant relationship between methicillin resistant nasal pathogens and hidden dental infections known as cavitations. It is her hope that understanding the neuro-inflammatory biotoxin link to psychiatry may bring greater improvements in research, diagnosis and treatment in the future.

Oxygen malabsorption and chronic fatigue are shown to link with biotoxin illness. The brain requires a steady supply of energy, and poor absorption of oxygen leads to physical debilitation and exhaustion, with a subsequent inability to accomplish simple daily tasks. The inability to utilize oxygen effectively may be a major cause of brain fog, cognitive impairment, anxiety and emotional lability often seen in chronic fatigue patients.

New research is evolving in the earlier detection and potential reversal of Alzheimer’s Disease. Our current understanding of AD is being assisted using traditional MRI brain scans in conjunction with a newly developed diagnostic software tool called the NeuroQuant Triage Brain Atrophy Report. Triage reports can pinpoint brain regions that may underlie neuropsychiatric symptoms. Dr. Ackerley has presented these findings at medical conferences.

Her internet article entitled “Brain on Fire” (related YouTube) is a summary of the psychiatric implications of biotoxin illness and her practice My Passion 4 Health is located in Tucson, Arizona. She may be reached for consultations on complex cases through Skype.

Mary Beth Ackerley MD, MD(H), ABIHM is a Harvard and Johns Hopkins trained board certified psychiatrist. She is a gifted speaker and board certified in Integrative and Holistic Medicine. She is a member of the Arizona Homeopathic and Integrative Medical Association.

Dr. Mitchell first realized his strong passion for helping people through the wellness field while working at a drugstore in high school. That experience inspired him to earn his graduate degree in pharmacy and help people for more than 24 years. While practicing as a compounding pharmacist and consultant pharmacist, Dr. Mitchell learned that many of the drugs dispensed for treatment were ultimately harming patients by suppressing their symptoms while allowing the underlying cause of illness to remain untreated. With this epiphany, Dr. Mitchell decided to pursue medical school and provide patients with the best of both naturopathic and conventional medicine. He completed his medical degree from the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine.

Dr. Mitchell’s first experience in using natural, restorative healing came before he even entered medical school, when he helped both his wife Ann and a family member with debilitating illnesses. His wife suffered with a painful back injury for years, and was told by the “best doctors” that only drugs and surgery would help. At 20 months old, the family member was diagnosed with autism and was told that there was nothing doctors could do to reverse the disorder. His love for these members of his family kept him from accepting these answers and urged him forward to find alternatives, which included DAN! (Defeat Autism Now) training education.

While in school to earn his NMD, Dr. Mitchell trained under leaders in environmental medicine and autism, including Walter Crinnion, ND, Jessica Tran, ND, William Rea, MD, and Elizabeth Mumper, MD. Through that work, Dr. Mitchell developed his own treatment protocols and was able to further reverse the autism disorder and allow his family member to recover, develop, and thrive as a neuro-typical child at home and in the public classroom. Dr. Mitchell’s wife Ann recovered and was able to return to work following orthomolecular nutrient therapy and lifestyle changes.

Armed with those experiences, his time as a pharmacist, and with a medical degree in hand, Dr. Mitchell opened Lifestream Wellness to focus on endocrine (hormone), immune, Lyme disease and neurological concerns — the prime areas involved with environmental toxicity and commonly found in chronic disease states. The practice of environmental medicine is often the key to treating the underlying cause of chronic disease, even in diverse conditions such as celiac disease and Alzheimer’s. Dr. Mitchell also specializes in bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT), chronic inflammatory disease, chronic infectious disease, and autoimmune disorders. In his office, he has a hyperbaric oxygen chamber, and he has even designed a unique cardiovascular plaque removal protocol that reduces deposits by alternating treatments that remove the cholesterol then chelates out the calcifications and heavy metals.

Dr. Mitchell is a compassionate listener who designs customized treatment plans that work with lifestyles and budgets using all the therapeutic tools within the blend of naturopathic and conventional medicine. He empowers and educates his patients, allowing them to fully understand their health and the healing process. Dr. Mitchell is a dedicated advocate and trusted advisor for patients in their journey to tackle their initial health concerns, the restoration process, and their quest for maintaining a life of health and wellness.
